We Are Mosaic

A mosaic is a whole work that is created from many disparate pieces — different materials, different compositions, colors, sheens. Sometimes the pieces are broken, rough, or past their prime. Sometimes the pieces have been discarded.

In the hands of a master artist, these pieces are brought together to create a unified work of beauty and wholeness. Each piece retains its own characteristics, but when put together with other fragments, they testify to the imagination and genius of the work's creator.

That sounds like each of us, doesn't it? Maybe we are a bit of a discard, a little rough around the edges, or with a crack that seems to take up our whole selves — yet in the hands of THE master Artist, we are in the process of being made whole. Being made into something beautiful.

We are made whole to make whole
through the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

Thanks be to God.

What Drives Us

Mission, Vision & Values

Mission

Made Whole to Make Whole

As Mosaic Christian Church we reflect our gratitude for God's creative work. We are made whole to make whole through the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

Vision

Whole-Hearted Faith

To co-create with the Spirit a whole-hearted Communion sharing a whole-hearted faith for the whole person — body, mind, and spirit — for one's whole life from beginning to end.

Values

Every Person a Gift

We seek opportunities to equip followers of Jesus in all areas of life — spiritual, emotional, intellectual, physical, and social. We believe the whole person is created to respond to beauty, imagination, and creativity, and we welcome those gifts here.

Our Tradition

Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ)

We are Disciples of Christ — a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord's Table as God has welcomed us.

"Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and we proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world."

— Matthew 16:16

Vision

To be a faithful, growing church that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality, and a passion for justice. — Micah 6:8

Mission

To be and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, witnessing, loving and serving from our doorsteps "to the ends of the earth." — Acts 1:8

At the Table

The Lord's Table, open to all, is the center of our worship and practice. Communion is celebrated every Sunday.

Our City

Rooted in
Peoria, Illinois

The lands that would become Peoria were first settled by the indigenous Kiikaapoi, Peoria, Kaskaskia, Sauk, and Meskwaki peoples — the Illinois Confederation — who hunted, farmed, and inhabited the land long before Europeans arrived.

A 21st-century proposal suggests "Peoria" derives from a proto-Algonquian word meaning "to dream with the help of Manitou (God)." Our prayer at Mosaic is that we might also dream God's dreams for this place — and act to foster the growth of God's kingdom, here and now, in Peoria.
