At Mosaic, serving is how we live out our mission: made whole to make whole. When we serve together, we honor the belief that every person is a gift. We are committed to being present with our neighbors, meeting them exactly where they are to build together a community where everyone has access to health, hope, and care.
Our Core Outreach Ministry
The WHOLE Initiative is a community health and wholeness ministry designed to increase access to care while strengthening relationships among neighbors. We partner with OSF Healthcare and community agencies like Central Illinois Friends, Heartland Health, Just Kidz Dentistry, Brimfield Family Dentistry, and others to host quarterly free health clinics, seasonal outreach events, and food ministries—all centered on the belief that health includes the whole person: body, mind, spirit, and community.
Each event includes a shared meal and fellowship opportunities such as games, art activities, and practical learning that fosters trust and reduce social isolation. We serve families experiencing food insecurity, transportation barriers, and limited access to healthcare in Peoria's 61604 zip code—one of the city's most economically disadvantaged areas.
Our intergenerational volunteer base—ranging in age from 5 to 90—supports every aspect of this ministry. Together, we're creating a "big tent" where diverse providers offer care without barriers, and neighbors know they belong.
The WHOLE Initiative was established in 2022 through a Mission and Ministry Grant by National Benevolent Association, a ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Why This Matters
Our Context
We serve residents of Peoria's second most economically disadvantaged area. This neighborhood is a food desert following the closure of its last grocery store and a healthcare desert requiring travel for public medical services. Many residents are older adults or multigenerational households caring for children.
Our Community
Wardcliffe, Hamilton Park, and Sterling Oaks residents include senior adults, low-income families, and grandparents raising grandchildren. Programming prioritizes households experiencing food insecurity, transportation barriers, and limited access to healthcare.
Our Location
Our location is on a major bus line. It is also one block from Sterling Middle School. People who rely on nearby support pass through our grounds every day. Our Blessing Box, a free little pantry by our parking lot, provides ongoing access to food for dozens of neighbors, including students, workers, families, and people experiencing homelessness.
